Are you already a foster carer but looking to move to a new agency? We would be happy to have a confidential chat about Break's approach to fostering, our unique support and competitive allowance.

Transferring to a new fostering agency is a straightforward process and our experienced team are here to make it as smooth as possible for you and the child in your care.

Every foster carer has the right to transfer to a new fostering agency. It may be that you don't feel you’re getting enough support from your current agency, there may have been changes that mean your needs aren’t being met, or you’re simply looking for a different fostering experience.

Transferring is easier than you may think. If you’re already fostering a child and want to move to us, we’ll be with you every step of the way and our main priority will always be the child in your care.

“The transition itself was really very easy and quick to do. I just sent an email to say this is my intention to move. We had a meeting, a date was set and it was job done! All in all, the process took four months from start to finish including background checks.”

Break do things differently

  • Our foster carers are part of our team. We value and respect your knowledge of the child.
  • Our social workers have small caseloads so they can give you and the child the time and support you need.
  • As a not-for-profit charity, we reinvest in our foster carers and children.
  • As a small service, our foster carers say they appreciate that they know everyone on the team and we all know the children.
  • Our service is co-produced with our foster families and children. We care and act on what foster families really need.
  • Break offers a competitive fostering allowance so you can focus on the child.
  • Break recognises long-service with extra benefits.
  • Our in-house therapeutic parenting practitioner supports you based on need, rather than limiting support to a certain number of sessions.
  • Break's has many additional expert services to support children in care and young people leaving care that you can access.

How to transfer

Get in touch: Start by reaching out for a confidential chat. We will answer your questions and take the time to understand your experience and what you are looking for in a fostering agency. We can spend as much time as you need exploring the potential move, with no obligation or pressure - the decision has to be right for you, your family and the agency.

Inform your current agency: When you decide to transfer, you will need to notify your existing agency of your intention to move. All foster carers have the right to move and should be treated with respect throughout this process.

Assessment and background checks: We will work with you to complete an updated assessment, including background checks. Your dedicated supervising social worker will guide you through the process, and prepare you for panel, where a final recommendation will be made.

Supporting the child's wellbeing: If you are currently caring for a child, we will collaborate with their care team to ensure the transition is handled with their best interests in mind. Every step will be carefully planned to minimise disruption, ensuring continuity and stability for the child.

Break prioritise the wellbeing of both our foster carers and the children in their care. We are committed to making the transfer process as smooth and supportive as possible for you and your family.
