Residential short breaks

Residential short breaks

Break specialises in providing short breaks for young people with disabilities and complex needs, offering regular planned stays.  We have a short breaks home that provides a safe, warm, stable and thoughtful environment for up to six young people between the ages of 5 and 18.

Short breaks provide parents and siblings with the opportunity to recharge their batteries and have a break from what can sometimes be challenging, spending quality time with each other, safe in the knowledge that their child is being well cared for and is enjoying a positive stay away from home.

Our amazing team

The young people who come for a short break stay are likely to have difficult or challenging patterns of behaviour, and in many cases, a range of physical/personal care needs.  Our fundamental belief is that young people need a place to contain and nurture them in order to help them develop their full potential.

Our team support young people to enjoy a range of activities, build their confidence, independence skills and form friendships.  The activities we provide are tailored to each young person which we know is really valued. These can include roller-skating, swimming, soft play, going to the cinema and even visiting the circus.

Taking part in these activities is fun and helps each young person establish positive relationships with our staff, who are completely committed to their well-being. Many of these short breaks help to stimulate and develop new interests from having experienced many activities for the very first time.

Each short break also helps create long term benefits by creating meaningful progress for each young person based upon their individual goals. Our staff offer support through a range of techniques and participation in household activities. The effective support helps young people develop their communication and independent-living skills.

Over the course of a typical year Break provide over 1000 nights of short breaks and we see fantastic progress as young people demonstrate more patience, sharing, developing relationships and growing in confidence.
