We are delighted to announce that we will be opening three new homes in Suffolk, enabling us to expand our services and support more young people across the region.
Funded by Suffolk County Council, two of the homes will be located in Bury St Edmunds and one in Lowestoft, and all three will be designed as solo, or intensive housing, supporting one young person at a time to give them complete wraparound care.
Young people with care experience often don’t start on the same footing as those without. The change or upheaval in their early years means it’s hard to build relationships and negatively impacts self-belief and the ability to cope with life’s ups and downs. This approach helps those who have experienced significant trauma and who may be finding it difficult to connect with others. By offering personalised and tailored support we can offer them everything they need to thrive as they transition into adulthood.
“I’m really excited about expanding our services into Suffolk as we know how important it is for young people who need our support to stay close to their local community,” explains Break CEO Rachel Cowdry. “As a charity which has been working with care experienced young people for over 50 years, we are very well established in running children’s homes. We work through a trauma informed lens and our new homes will create safe and loving spaces for young people who are facing extremely difficult life challenges and will provide them with what they need to thrive.”
Councillor James Reeder, Cabinet Member for Children’s and Young People Services
Commenting on the new homes Councillor James Reeder, Cabinet Member for Children’s and Young People Services said: "We are thrilled to be working alongside Break on this important initiative. Break has a proven track record of providing exceptional care and support to children and young people. Together, we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and young people in care in Suffolk."
The three homes are scheduled to open their doors early in 2025 and we are now recruiting for dedicated and passionate staff to run them.
