Thinking about transferring fostering agency? It might be easier than you think

18 May 2026

If you’re already fostering, you’ll know the impact a calm, consistent home can have on a child. You’ll also know how important the right support around you is in making fostering sustainable.

Some fosters carers consider transferring agency, but the process can feel daunting. There’s often a concern that it means starting again or disrupting what’s already working for the child in your care. In reality, transferring can be much simpler than people expect.

It doesn’t mean starting over

Transferring isn’t about undoing what you’ve built. Your experience, your relationships and what already works for your family matter. At Break, our approach is to understand your current situation and build on it. The focus stays on stability for the child and support for you.

How transferring to Break works

The process begins with a confidential, no‑obligation conversation with our team. It’s simply a chance to ask questions and explore whether Break feels like the right fit.

If you decide to move forward:

  • you’ll notify your current agency
  • an updated assessment takes place, including checks and a panel review
  • Break’s team guides you throughout.

For many carers, the process takes around four to six months, depending on individual circumstances. The child’s wellbeing remains the priority throughout.

We understand transferring is a personal decision. All conversations are treated confidentially and shared only with your permission. We work closely with everyone involved to make the transition as smooth and supportive as possible, helping children feel safe, settled and understood.

Curious about transferring?

If you’re based in East Anglia and are interested in transferring to Break, we’d love to chat. We’re hosting a fostering street lounge outside The Forum in Norwich on Tuesday 19 May if you’d like to pop by, or you can book a noobligation conversation with our friendly team to ask questions, learn more about our approach and understand what fostering with Break could look like for you.
