A GoGo collection!

Nestled in a quiet suburb on the outskirts of Norwich is what has affectionately become known as ‘The Dragon House’. The house has seen visitors come from as far as Australia to see the vibrant sculptures sitting in the garden, all purchase from the various GoGo sculpture art trails organised by local charity Break.

Timm Hay

“I didn’t know much about the charity at the time, but I was drawn to its local focus and mission to help young people who have had a difficult start in life. I wanted to find out more about their work and I was invited to visit one of their children’s homes. I was so impressed by the set-up that I knew this was a charity I wanted to be involved with. But I had no idea from winning that first Gorilla at auction it would end up like this!”

His collection currently includes five dragons, a gorilla that initially took up residence in his home before moving to the garden; two hares that stand proudly at the front door; and two T.Rex sculptures. With some seen from the road, the sculptures have become a local attraction, drawing visitors from as far away as China, Australia, and New Zealand. The family also loan the sculptures out to schools and hospitals with all donations going directly to Break.

“I’ve loved supporting the trails. They are such a clever and unique idea, and the artwork on them is incredible. They really are a collector’s item. My main aim at the auctions is to help Break get the most out of the evening as I know what a big fundraiser it is. Although my enthusiasm has meant I may have purchased some sculptures I didn’t mean to!”

Looking back at the GoGoDragon auction in 2015, his daughter Mille said “I was really excited when Dad came home, wondering which one he’d won. Then five rocked up the next morning, as a kid it was the best thing ever!”

“I liken bidding in an auction to karaoke,” explains Timm. “Once you get the courage to go up, you don’t want to let the microphone go! It’s like bidding, once you bid you get what I call ‘auction fever’ and it can be tricky to stop, especially if there’s a sculpture you have your eye on! But it is great fun, and you know that your money is going to something really worthwhile.”

“I’d love to be back for the next auction. I would really encourage those who can, to consider bidding - not only are you acquiring unique art pieces, but you’re also helping a fantastic charity.”
