Jo’s Fundraising Journey

When Jo first heard about fundraising for Break, it was through a chance opportunity - a spot in the Cambridge Half Marathon. At the time, she also had a ballot place for the London Marathon, and the idea of using these events to support Break seemed like a great fit.
“I didn’t know much about Break back then,” Jo admits. But that soon changed.
Jo was added to a group chat with other runners and invited to a thank-you gathering where she met other fundraisers and the Break team. “That’s when it really clicked for me,” she says. “Hearing about Break’s work and seeing the passion of the team was amazing. Having been in foster care myself as a youngster, it resonated with me deeply.”
Over time, Jo’s connection with Break grew stronger. “I’ve fundraised for other charities before, but this was the first time I felt such a personal connection, thanks to the continued support and links with the Break team.”
Jo has thrown herself into fundraising with creativity and enthusiasm and to date she has raised over £4000:
Running for Break: She’s run the Cambridge Half twice (even more fun the second time, thanks to the CoffeeBreak van!) and completed the London Marathon while proudly fundraising for Break.
Christmas Crafting: Jo’s wreath-making fundraiser started as a small idea at her house but grew so popular she had to move it to Break’s office! The event was so much fun with chatter, music, and a lot of foliage everywhere - it inspired a Break-organised version the following year.
Carol Concerts & Community Events: From organising raffles and a sponsored walk to attending Break’s carol concerts and cross-country races, Jo has loved every moment.
Jo’s also found ways to bring her workplace into the fundraising fun with lost property donations, a venue for her sponsored walk base, and sponsorship in return for advertising on a running top.

Why Fundraising for Break is Special
For Jo, the best part of fundraising for Break has been meeting new people and making lasting friendships. “I've made new friends along the way and it’s been amazing to spread the word about the incredible work Break does,” she says.
