Break and Saffron Housing Partner to Create Lasting Homes for Care Leavers

20 Nov 2025

Break is proud to announce a new partnership with Saffron Housing Trust, designed to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing young people leaving care - access to safe and stable housing.

Too often, care leavers face long waiting lists for social housing or must declare themselves homeless to secure priority access. This lack of stability leaves many feeling insecure and unable to plan for their futures. Break’s Staying Close, Staying Connected service for care leavers already offers vital transitional support, but housing shortages and policy changes can make moving on from care increasingly difficult.

Through this new partnership, Break and Saffron Housing are piloting an approach that allows young people to move into a Saffron property while still being supported by Break, removing the ‘cliff edge’ many young people face when they leave care. And once they feel ready, they take on the tenancy themselves, transforming what was once a temporary home into somewhere of their own.

“This partnership has the potential to be truly transformative for the young people we work with,” said Steve Hulme Break’s Development Manager. “We know of some young people waiting several years to find a home. They deserve housing that reflects their importance and gives them the stability to thrive. Working with Saffron, combining their housing expertise with our support, creates a real opportunity to make this a reality. It’s been amazing to see our shared vision come to life.”

This month, the first young person moved into what could become their forever home, an important milestone in shaping a brighter future for care-experienced young people.
