Hundreds of spectators lined the riverbanks from St. Georges Bridge to Fye Bridge, cheering on the ‘duckorated’ ducks by local businesses, schools, and community groups as they made their way down the river Wensum. Following them were thousands of smaller ducks, all part of the exciting Duckling Raffle Race, with the first ten over the line winning some great prizes including entry to some top Norfolk attractions.
Sponsored by ABC Taxis, the day’s festivities kicked off with the Duck Parade at noon, allowing spectators to admire the various designs before The Worshipful the Sheriff of Norwich, Sirajul Islam started the official race.
Coming first in the Duckorated race was QD Stores duck who went home with the coveted Crystal Duck Trophy. They were shortly followed by Broadland Lodge Care Home and in third place was Adrian Flux’s Oasis-inspired duck.
The Ribs of Beef served as the perfect viewing point for the finish line, offering food and drink. Visitors also enjoyed entertainment from the wonderful Ash Carr, and family-friendly activities like Hook a Duck, cornhole and face painting.
And the winners of the raffle who took home some quacktastic prizes including passes to Pensthorpe, Thurford, Hollywood Bowl were: Lauren S, Jenny J, Beks, Gemma D, Sam B, Darrell D, David W, Robert H, Sophie W and Paula W. Congratulations!
Break works closely with the Broads Authority to ensure the event is environmentally friendly, with all ducks and debris cleared from the river afterward, thanks to a team of paddleboarders.
We look forward to seeing even more quacktastic fun at next year’s race!
A big thank you to our event sponsor ABC Taxi and partners Zag Wear and Notre Dame Prep School
