16-year-old student launches online auction to support Break’s Be There appeal

18 May 2021

Student Millie Hay, aged 16 from Norwich, has organised an online auction to support Break's Be There appeal – and lots include a weekend stay at Sea Glass Barn in Mundesley, glamping in a double decker bus and a day out in a Ferrari Portofino.

The auction, now live and running until Saturday 29th May, will raise vital funds for Break, who provide a lifelong commitment to young people on the edge of care, in care and moving on from care.

Millie attends Norwich School and is currently studying and revising for her GCSE’s. Millie wanted to support Break’s Be There appeal, launched following a financial loss as a result of Covid and at a time when its young people need its support more than ever before.

Millie said: “All of the proceeds will go to Break and the children it supports. Break is very close to my heart and my family and I have loved supporting the Break GoGo trails in Norfolk. For years, I have been inspired by the incredible work and time Break gives to provide safe homes and opportunities to vulnerable, young people who have experienced past trauma. I wanted to organise an event to support this local charity as this past year has been extremely challenging and has had detrimental impacts for everyone, including for charities. I was determined to organise an event in which Break benefits from the proceeds to help them recover. We have been really lucky sourcing some fantastic prizes, and there really is something for everyone to bid on. I hope we can raise lots of money to change young lives, so that together we can help Break support and care for young people in East Anglia.”

All items have been kindly donated by local individuals and businesses following an appeal for lots from Millie which she organised.

The lots include short breaks, driving and dining experiences, as well as hampers of goodies.

Highlights include:

A weekend stay at Sea Glass Barn in Mundesley for ten

Glamping in a double decker bus

NCFC tickets and dinner at Delia’s

Afternoon tea at Morston Hall

Stoke Mill dining and wine tasting for six

Day out in a Ferrari Portofino

Gardenware and hardware tools and hampers of craft gins and liqueurs

The auction will close on Saturday 29th May at 9pm.

The Be There appeal hopes to raise money to recover some of the £2.1 million reduction in income it has suffered over the past year, as a result of its charity shops being closed and reduced income from fundraising activity.

As well as bidding on a lot, there is still time to donate a prize to this event. Please contact fundraising@break-charity.org
