Making a Will is a simple process that most solicitors will be able to assist with. The Law Society offers a free ‘Find a Local Solicitor’ service which can be found at The Law Society’s website: www.lawsociety.org.uk, or by calling them on 020 7320 5650.

In your Will you need to ensure you state what you would like to gift, and include Break in your Will by giving your legal advisor our registered charity name and number which is: Break, registered charity number 206650.
It's important for everyone over 18 to create a Will, particularly if you have dependents. It’s a good idea to update it regularly as life changes, such as the birth of children, marriage, or the loss of a loved one. Having an up-to-date Will provides you and your family reassurance that you've made plans for the people and things you care about.
If you’ve already included Break in your Will, letting us know is completely optional, but it can make a real difference.

Any information you choose to share will be kept confidential, and we would never ask about the value of your gift.
Your solicitor or legal professional can support you with making changes to your Will. Often, they can update an existing Will by adding an additional document called a Codicil.
If you’ve previously told us about a gift in your Will and your plans change, you’re very welcome to let us know. This helps us keep our records up to date and continue planning ahead for the future.

At the time of writing, UK-registered charities are exempt from IHT so leaving a gift to Break in your Will would reduce the taxable value of your estate.
Before creating or amending your Will we recommend you speak to your legal adviser who will explain how the current rules apply to you and your circumstances.

Break does not currently offer a free Will writing service.
This is so we can focus our charitable funds directly on supporting young people in, around and leaving care.
We always recommend seeking independent legal advice when writing or updating your Will, and a solicitor or legal professional will be able to guide you through the process.
We understand that you may wish to direct your gift to a specific service, and we encourage you to contact us to discuss your preferences.
However, it’s essential that we remain agile in using donations where they will make the greatest difference to the young people and families we support. The needs of those we serve can change over time and we promise that all donations will be used thoughtfully and directed to where they are needed most.
