Big Blue Hike
Join us on our Big Blue Hike!
With all routes starting from the beautiful Kelling Heath Holiday Park, you’ll be navigating the picturesque trails of North Norfolk taking in Felbrigg Hall and West Runton, and trekking along the beautiful coastal path to Beston Bump and Sheringham.
There is also our Little Blue Hike, a 3.8 mile circular walk around Kelling ideal for families and those with little legs!
This is more than just a hike; the full 18 miles represent the age many young people in care must leave their foster families or children's homes. Unlike most of their peers, they are expected to become fully independent with no stable family to fall back on. It's crucial that Break can support them for as long as needed, just like a good family would. We can only do this with the vital funds raised from events like this.
So lace up your boots and take on the challenge - let's make sure no young person walks alone on their journey to a bright future.

- £25 will provide a young person with a one-to-one session therapeutic session to share their thoughts and work through their worries.
- £50 could help a young person moving out of care make their new place a home by choosing their own soft furnishings.
- £100 could help a young person learn new skills as they work on our CoffeeBreak van and gain valuable qualifications, helping them into the world of work.
- £250 will give a group of care leavers a whole day of activities together to help them develop their confidence and share their experiences.

FAQs
Registration
You can register through Eventbrite. Just select the distance you want to do and fill in the relevant details and make your payment. Registration closes 14 September. There are limited places so registration may close earlier if full.
Putting on these types of events costs money. Your registration fee covers the majority of costs, but it’s your incredible fundraising efforts that enables us to help fund the vital services we offer young people from care which is why we’re asking you to pledge to raise a minimum of £100 on the 9 and 18 mile routes or a self-funded option £50 with fundraising optional.
To register you must be 18 or over but children between the ages of 11-17 can take part on the 18 or 9 mile routes only as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no minimum age limit to take part for the Little Blue Hike. When you register you will be asked to confirm if children will be attending and will be sent a parental form prior to the event to complete.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a transfer but in the event you are unable to participate we will issue a 60% refund. No refunds will be given after the 10.08.2024.

Please note that timings are correct at the time of going to press but may be subject to change due to external factors. All participants will be informed as soon as possible of any changes.
All routes are a mixture of road and trail and will be clearly marked. They are mainly flat, however there are some inclines, including Beeston Bump on the 18 and 9-mile routes.
This really depends on your own level of fitness, but we are expecting the routes to take the following maximum times:
- 18 miles: around 6-8 hours
- 9 miles: around 4-5 hours
All participants must complete the course by 4pm. There will be check in points so we know what time people are looking to finish, and a tail walker. We will make sure that n one gets left behind and those who may not make the cut-off time will be collected on the route and taken back to Kelling Heath Holiday Park.
The routes are partly off road, on trail taking in public footpaths and the Norfolk coastal path, and some parts are on road. There are slight inclines with the largest being Beeston Bump on the 18-mile route. Routes coming soon.
On the day
Parking is available free of charge for all participants at Kelling Heath Holiday Park on a first come first served basis. Please lift share where possible. You will be asked upon registering if you require car parking so we know how many spaces are available.
Toilets will be available at Kelling Heath and Felbrigg Hall.
We do ask that everyone makes sure that they have at least 2 litres of water on them. Water refill stations will be available along the route, and so we can be as environmentally friendly as possible, everyone is encouraged to bring their own bottle or water bladder to be refilled.
Snacks will be available at the checkpoint at Felbrigg Hall to keep you fuelled, but it’s always a good idea to have your favourite snacks on you for that energy boost on route!
Kelling Heath Holiday Park's café will be open 8.30am-3pm or you can purchase snacks and hot and cold drinks from their Village Store.
Unfortunately, we do not have any facilities for you to leave your bags. We would recommend you bring with you only what you need during the walk. Check out our kit list which will give you an idea of what you might need to bring.
Supporters are more than welcome. The start/finish and halfway point for the 18-mile at Felbrigg are good locations but they are unable to accompany you on the route or at any of the marshal points.
Dogs are welcome on the 9-mile hike ONLY. They must be kept on leads at all times and owners must ensure they clear up any dog poop. There will be a dog bowl and water at each checkpoint, but it is the owners responsibility to keep their dogs hydrated. In hot weather hikers will be advised to leave their dogs at home. Any dogs left in cars will be reported to the police.
No this is a non-competitive hike and all arrangements have been based on walking pace.
When you register you will be asked to confirm that you are fit enough to take part. But should something happen, first-aiders will be present at the Start/Finish and along the course. If you develop medical problems, please alert the nearest marshal and prompt assistance will be provided.
