Break goes West

Break CEO Chris Hoddy visits CHICKS and InfoBuzz

The CEO of Break, Chris Hoddy took a trip to the West of the UK in June to meet two charities involved with children and families - CHICKS and InfoBuzz - to hand over donations to both charities from Break.

Break has 16 charity shops across the West Country and felt at least some of the money raised should go towards projects that directly help children and families within the area.

Chris says “We were assisted by a local consultant who identified a group of local charities who do similar work to Break and have the same ‘ethos’ and attitude. Hence from a short list we met with and then chose CHICKS and InfoBuzz as charities we would fund and hopefully develop partnerships with into the future.”

“We see this as more than just a donation and we will be reviewing the success of this approach over the next year. This is very much new territory for Break and we look forward to seeing how our funding will help children in the West Country.”

CHICKS is a national charity based in Devon and Cornwall and they support over 400 disadvantaged children a year who come to them from towns and cities across the West Country such as Penzance, Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cirencester. The children they support are all disadvantaged and without CHICKS these 8 – 15 years old would otherwise not have the opportunity of some much needed time away from their challenging situations and benefit from some much needed respite care.

CEO, Elanor Hoskin says, “CHICKS is delighted to be working with Break which will help many more disadvantaged children from the West Country have the opportunity of a free respite break where they can spend time in a new environment, enjoy new experiences, make friends, have fun and ultimately get to be children again. We are very much looking to working more closely with Break going forward”.

CEO of InfoBuzz, Dave Pearce, says “We are delighted to be working with Break and look forward to finding ways of enhancing each other’s work in Gloucestershire.  We are also very grateful for the generous donation which will allow us to provide mentoring for some very vulnerable young people”.

Chris visited CHICKS Moorland Retreat on Dartmoor on Wednesday 5 June at and InfoBuzz on Thursday 6 June.
