Cross Country 2010
The Hunny Bell Cross Country was staged once again at the Stody Estate, near Holt in Norfolk, in what can only be described as a downpour! It rained from the start to finish in the coldest and wettest day of the year!
We had 120 runners take part across three categories. The under 13's set of first with 2 miles of the course to complete and with some amazing times for the conditions. The winner Reece Robson overcame a fall in the ford at the start where he cut his knee and got drenched from head to toe and raced around the circuit in 16 minutes and 7 second. Second in the under 13's boys was Jacob Hastings (16.57) and third was Hamish Selby (17.15).
The girls were equally competitive with Megan Bird romping home in 17 minutes 33 seconds, second was Georgie Bain (19.33) and third was Georgina Massingham (19.51).
As the rain continued we started our under 17's race. Again this was hard fought and coming home for the boys was David Cogger in 16 minutes and 28 seconds. Second and third places went to twins - Lorcan Forde (17.26) and Ronan Forde (17.59). For the girls Rebecca Baines and Serena Smith crossed the line holding hands, a lovely gesture and happy to share 1st prize in a time of 19 minutes, 58 seconds and coming 3rd for the girls was Frances Mullany (23.00).
As we started the Adults race the weather just kept on coming, it was amazing to see people braving the elements in just a vest and shorts!! Superb effort all round. This year's the race was as competitive as ever with the overall fastest time going to Tom Richardson. He received the Hunny Bell vase for the fastest time - 31 minutes 29 seconds. Second place went to Ian Hogarth (31.32) and third went to Malcolm Tuff in the same time.
This year's lady winner Claire Donavan wasn't far behind the men's winners with a superb time of 34.25. Second was Rebecca Cousins (35.43) and third going to Carmine De Grande (39.15).
Just as a final piece I would like to thank everyone who took part and helped on the day, it was an amazing effort all around and a great show of support for Break Charity.
